A Day Well Spent

I held down my first job before I learned to shave
I still recall old dodger and the sound advice he gave
If you want to build a fortune
Better guard each hard earned cent
Any day you save a dollar is a day well spent

Soon I started hearing of that sweet forbidden fruit
Was the hottest day of summer and she had no swimming suit
I begged her and I pleaded
Till I got her to consent
I guess I’d have to score it as a day well spent

All my days were numbered from the morning of my birth
It’s taken me ten thousand just to learn what one is worth
If I gained this wisdom from each casual event
Every day it cost me was a day well spent

When my nights grow longer and my eyes can’t take the sun
And all my time is borrowed and my living nearly done
In the twilight I will wonder
Where the golden hours went
Any day I can account for was a day well spent

All my days were numbered from the morning of my birth
It’s taken me ten thousand just to learn what one is worth
If I gained this wisdom from each casual event
Every day it cost me was a day well spent

Day well spent
Day well spent
Day well spent
